Dr Murray purchased the Grantham Street Veterinary Clinic in partnership with Dr Paul Davey, in 2003. Their similarity in what they feel makes a good veterinary practice has seen the partnership successfully continue ever since. In 2010, Dr Murray and Dr Davey purchased the Dalkeith Veterinary Clinic, which Dr Murray now spends much of his time consulting at. In addition to running two successful veterinary practices, Dr Murray is also heavily involved in the Save African Rhino Foundation. The foundation is a Western Australian charity which raises funds to promote awareness, provide equipment, training and financial assistance to help prevent poaching of the endangered Black Rhinoceros. In his well-earned breaks, Dr Murray enjoys venturing off the beaten track on camping expeditions with his wife and two daughters. At home on weekends, you could also bump into Dr Murray either on a hockey field, or on the side of one coaching his daughters.
Dr Claire is currently on maternity leave.
Growing up in a small South West town, surrounded by animals, cemented a career in Veterinary Science for Dr Claire at a very young age. Since moving up to study her Veterinary Degree at Murdoch University, Claire has embraced city life and living by the sea, having worked for many years in Fremantle. Claire's passion for small animal medicine and surgery, and the belief of treating every pet like family, made our decision easy to welcome her to our team in 2017. Claire also considers trust as a critical part of veterinary work, and enjoys getting to know all her patients and their owners. Working together with owners means Claire is able to offer the best treatment options for your pet. When not looking after pets, Claire enjoys taking Odi, her sausage dog, to the beach or pampering her 'really wants to be a princess' cat, Bean. Claire also enjoys bush and beach walking, baking, travelling, renovating and loves dark chocolate!
Dr Nisha joined the Dalkeith team early in 2021 after covering for another vet on maternity leave, but since then she has never left and is now one of our full time vets. After a childhood of 'playing vets' with her sister on their very tolerant family cat, she decided she would fulfil these dreams and so completed her veterinary degree at Murdoch University. Nisha is from Perth and has practised here as a small animal veterinarian ever since graduating and enjoys all aspects of medicine and surgery, especially the variety that general practice brings – one day is never the same as the next! She is passionate about building relationships with pets and their families and values the importance of clear communication in order to work together and make a plan to suit each individual. Outside of the clinic, you will likely find Nisha on or near a hockey field as this seems to take up most of her free time, but she might also be found at the beach or on a bush walk with her energetic Dalmatian pup called Juno. Nisha loves the great outdoors and all things nature, but is also not shy when it comes to exploring the newest wine bar or wood-fired pizza joint around Perth.
Dr Sophie is our newest member of the team, having joined our practice midway through 2023 to cover for Dr Claire whilst she is on maternity leave (although we suspect we won't be letting her leave any time soon). Prior to this, Sophie was working as an emergency veterinarian at a 24 hour hospital in Perth after graduating from Murdoch University in 2020. Having grown up on a farm surrounded by animals, alongside her love of medicine, Sophie has always wanted to be a veterinarian. Sophie loves all aspects of veterinary medicine, however she has a special interest in surgery, long term patient care and the importance of communication with clients. Sophie has two adorable (one of whom is quite troublesome) cats at home and is looking forward to the time when she had a backyard and can thus have a dog as well! When Sophie is not taking care of animals, she is spending time with her own pets, going for walks at the beach and travelling.
Brigitte joined our team in March 2018 to take up a full-time nursing position. Brigitte's husband's work move from Sydney to Perth was very timely for us! Brigitte started nursing in a busy practice in 2012, so her experience made her a great find. However, what we liked most about Brigitte was her easy going, cheerful nature, compassion and care of patients, and great sense of humour. Needless to say, Brigitte has fitted in wonderfully to our team. When not at work, Brigitte is not shy of a little adventure and enjoys 4WD trips, fishing and was a keen AFL player prior to an ankle injury. We have decided not to disclose her favourite footy team as it is pretty black and white that this won't be appreciated over here in the West! Brigitte has two dogs, "Roo" the Kelpie and "Kia", a soft hearted Boxer x German Shepherd. A tank full of colourful tropical fish and unusual looking axolotls add variety to Brigitte's home. Brigitte also enjoys cooking, but if the recipe doesn't need it, she is very happy to eat the chocolate and drink the wine!
After spending her early life in administration, going on to motherhood and then working in a crèche, Viv finally went back and studied to follow her dream and become a Veterinary Nurse. Veterinary nursing has always been Viv's passion, she just 'fell into other vocations' on her way to becoming a nurse! Viv is loving her work with us and gets the best of both worlds by sharing her time between our Grantham Street and Dalkeith Clinics. Viv balances her part-time work with looking after quite a menagerie at home. This includes her husband, two adult children, 2 dogs and 4 cats (a consequence of Viv's soft heart and time working at the Cat Haven!).
Shannon is one of the newer recruits to our vet nursing team joining us in 2023, but you wouldn't know it because even after a short time with us it is like she has been part of the team all along. Shannon has not always been a vet nurse – she comes from a background of recruitment for the Defence Force, however she has always wanted to work with dogs in some capacity ever since she was a kid. This saw her complete her studies at AVT to become a registered veterinary nurse, which she completed whilst also volunteering at the RSPCA. Shannon is also a member of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (a non-for-profit organisation that promote interests of vet nursing across the country) as well as being fear free certified which is especially important for our nervous pets who don't always love coming to the vet. Her favourite part of vet nursing is all things surgery, but she does love the clinical work and patient care side as well. Although Shannon currently has no pets of her own (yet!), she gets her fix from all our cuddly patients as well as her family's menagerie of pets including 3 dogs, 2 cats, chickens and even Sean the (pet) sheep! In her spare time, Shannon enjoys camping and going on 4WD adventures and she also has quite the green thumb. When not in the garden, she might be found at the beach or spending time with her family and friends.
Bradie grew up in a small country town in the south-west of WA and moved up to Perth as a teenager to study psychology at university. She was actually bit of a late bloomer in the vet industry - it was not on her occupational radar until her mid twenties when she started volunteering at Cat Haven because she missed her family cat. She discovered she loved working with animals so much she began pursuing a career in the field, starting as a kennel hand at a vet clinic. Bradie then realised she loves dogs almost as much as she loved cats and never looked back. She finished her certificate IV in vet nursing in 2011 and has worked in various clinics around Perth until she finally settled at Dalkeith Vet Clinic in 2022. Bradie enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing but has a special interest in dog and cat behaviour and how it relates to their owners, which only seems fitting given her psychology background. She has 3 cats called Guido, Nymeria and Ginny who she adores and gets her dog fix at work from all your beautiful fur babies. On the weekend, you might find Bradie at home building lego or at the movies watching the latest Marvel installation.
